Grace (Holtrop/Bolluyt) Huenink, 87, of Hawarden, Iowa passed into the arms of her loving Savior on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church, with Rev. Mark Klompien officiating. Interment at Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Iowa, with fellowship following in the church hall. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Condolence may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa.
Grace was born October 21, 1928 at Doon, Iowa to Louis and Tillie (Zwaan) Holtrop. She married Elmer Bolluyt on November 30, 1949. They were blessed with a daughter, Irene, and a son, Louis, before Elmer’s death in June 1955.
She pursued her teaching certification and earned a degree in Education while teaching primary grades in Christian schools at Hawarden, Iowa; Volga, South Dakota; Edgerton, Minnesota; Hull, Iowa and Rock Valley, Iowa. Later, she volunteered at Ireton Christian School as a remedial teacher’s aide.
In May 1982, Grace married Gerrit Huenink of Hawarden, Iowa. Together they enjoyed gardening, fishing and travel. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting as a hobby. Grace was a life-long member of the Christian Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible study groups and was active as a member of the Library Committee. Until her recent illness, she was a regular volunteer at the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Irene (Ken) Vogel of Tomball, Texas; Louis (Debra) Bolluyt of Emporia, Kansas; Marjorie (Lawrence) Vander Esch of Hull, Iowa; Nancy (Steve) Rop of Muskegon, Michigan; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Cathy Wilson of Nashville, Tennessee; Shayne (Kelly) Vander Esch of Johnston, Iowa; Megan (Travis) Kooima and Grayson of Hull, Iowa; Leah (David) Mackus of Ada, Michigan; and Jason (Laura) Rop and Madelyn of Byron Center, Michigan; her brothers, Elwyn (Jean) Holtrop of Lakewood, Colorado; Louis (Lori) Holtrop of Burbank, Illinois, her sister, Twyla (Van Pykeren) Elkins of Sacramento, California; and her sisters-in-law, Rena (Fred) Holtrop of Ireton, Iowa; Joann (Roger) Holtrop of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mary (Henry) Holtrop of Phoenix, Arizona and many friends, family and colleagues.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Elmer and Gerrit; and her brothers, Fred, Henry and Roger.
