Grace Harthoorn

Rock Valley, IA: Grace Wilma Harthoorn, 86, of Rock Valley, died Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Hegg Memorial Health Center. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. Private family burial will be prior at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with family present, will be from 6:00-7:30 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Grace Wilma Harthoorn was born November 2, 1929 near Lebanon, Iowa, daughter of John and Gertie (Vander Lugt) Kooi. Grace married Cornelius “Cornie” Harthoorn on February 10, 1953 at Lebanon. Together they lived on a farm west of Doon, Iowa until they retired to Rock Valley, Iowa in 1990. Cornie died on January 27, 2006. Grace volunteered at Wheelchairs at Hope Haven and Justice for All. She enjoyed camping, crocheting, cross stich, sewing, gardening, and watching the grandkids play sports.

Survivors include her children, daughter, Bonnie (Doug) Vanden Bosch of Larchwood, Iowa and children, Amy (Tony) Keahi, Keith (Jennifer), and Kyle (Stephanie); daughter, Lora (Jason) Kahl of Tavares, Florida and children, Tami (Matt) Bakker, Tara (Scott) Boer, and Evan (Melissa) De Boer; son, Corwin (Donna) Harthoorn of Doon and children, Collin (Haylee), Gina (Jeremy) Hilt, Colton (Kristi); son, Barry (Sue) Harthoorn of Ainsworth, Nebraska and children, Haley, Austin, Maria; brothers, Randall Kooi of Edgerton, Minnesota, Bill (Gert) Kooi of Orange City, Iowa, Elmer (Karen) Kooi of Sioux Center, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Nella Kooi of Inwood, Iowa, Trudy (Leonard) Bouma of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Nell Harthoorn of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cornie; infant daughter, Doreen; sister, Dreaka (Hank) Van Ballegooyen; brother, Pete Kooi; sisters-in-law, Mary Kooi, Margaret (Mike) Kooi and Sylvia (Ray) Kempema.
