Gilbert C. Hoogendoorn

Rock Valley, IA: Gilbert C. Hoogendoorn, 87, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Monday, September 20, 2021, under the care of hospice at his son’s home in Rock Valley. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23, at 2:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Public visitation, with no family present, will be held Wednesday, September 22, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home.

Gilbert Cornelius Hoogendoorn, son of Merritt and Gertrude (Van Voorst) Hoogendoorn, was born June 3, 1934 near Alvord, Iowa. Gilbert married Roevina Van Ginkel on June 20, 1956. The couple lived most of their married years in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Gilbert was employed at Kooima Machine Works, now known as Total Component Solutions (TCS), for 42 years. He retired in March 2001. Gilbert enjoyed fishing, lawncare, woodworking, traveling, and photography. He was a longtime member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Roevina; son, Michael (Marilyn) Hoogendoorn; 3 grandchildren and their families, grandson, Wendell (Nicky) Hoogendoorn and their children, Makiah and Avrey; grandson, Jeff (Crystal) Hoogendoorn and their children, Keegan, Masen, Hailey, Madisyn, and Aubree; and granddaughter, Amy (Joey) Hinderks and their children, Jaden, Kavan, and Peyton; brother, Jake (Kathy) Hoogendoorn; and sister, Marge (John) Vis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
