Inwood, Iowa: Gertrude Gert Meendering, 91, of Inwood, Iowa died Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Sam Krikke officiating. Burial will be held prior to the service at Richland Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church. Gert was born September 30, 1924 at rural Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of Siebolt and Frances (Harthoorn) Faber. She attended the Sioux County country school through the 8th grade. On January 21, 1946, Gert was united in marriage to Jake Meendering. Together they farmed and raised six children west of Inwood until 1989. They moved into Inwood in 1992. Gert was a lifelong member of the Inwood Christian Reformed Church where she was involved in many Bible studies and sang in the choir. She served on the Canton-Inwood Hospital Auxiliary Board and was a member of the Inwood Federated Womens Club. Gert was an avid letter writer and sent countless greeting cards. Family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren were most important to Gert. Also, she loved playing cards with her friends.
Gert is survived by her six children, Sandra (Greg) Hanson of Inwood, Peg (Ken) Visser of Sheldon, Iowa, Randy (Glen) Meendering of Inwood, Jeff (Sue) Meendering of Inwood, Kevin (special friend, Laurel Reinke) Meendering of Inwood, and Paula (Dennis) Van Bochove of Rock Valley, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Alice Faber of Inwood, Marlene (Bill) Miller of Rock Valley, Gertrude Statema of Lynden, Washington, Betty Meendering of Ontario, California, and Pat Kats of Rock Valley; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jake; son-in-law, Jim Blankespoor; brothers, Case Faber, Gerrit (Harriet) Faber, Marion Faber, and Rudy Faber; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Vander Haak, Elmer Meendering, Paul Kats, and Archie Statema.
