Gertrude Den Boer

Rock Valley, IA: Gertrude Den Boer, 89, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 03, 2016 at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be Friday, February 5, 2016 at Porter Funeral Home from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Foster Grandparent Program.

Gertrude Den Boer, daughter of Jim and Marie (Van Ginkel) Koedam, was born March 18, 1926 at rural Doon. Gertrude was united in marriage with John J. Den Boer on October 3, 1945 in Luverne, Minnesota. Together they farmed west of Rock Valley working side by side until moving to Rock Valley in 1987. Gertrude worked for the Foster Grandparent Program for 10 years. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. Gertrude enjoyed doing needlework and treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gertrude is survived by her 3 sons, James Den Boer of Brandon, South Dakota; Art (Nelva) Den Boer and Mike (Laura) Den Boer, both of Rock Valley; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Bill (Everdena) Koedam of Rock Valley; James (Wilma) Koedam of Doon; and Ed (Nina) Koedam of Rock Valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Marie; husband, John J.; and granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Den Boer.
