George Ripperda

Rock Valley, Iowa: George Ripperda, 78, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Monday, September 14, 2015 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 18, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2015 followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. George Edward Ripperda, son of Joe and Gladys (Kramer) Ripperda, was born October 26, 1936 at LeMars, Iowa. George was a graduate of Rock Valley High School, Class of 1955. After high school, George was a construction worker at the United States Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Upon returning to Rock Valley, George worked at Kooima Machine Works where he worked his way to be a group leader before retiring from there. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting and bowling and he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rock Valley.

George is survived by one brother, Dan (Karen) Ripperda of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one sister, Madonna Plueger of Rock Valley; one brother-in-law, Carl Selken of Larchwood, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Ripperda of Worthington, Minnesota and Jamie Ripperda of Georgetown Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, David; two brothers, Larry and Francis “Rip” Ripperda; one sister, Mary Ann Selken; and one brother-in-law, Don Plueger.
