George William Caswell was born to Andrew and Grace (Pals) Caswell in Hull, Iowa, later moving to Inwood, Iowa, where he built his forever home with his wife Marilyn where they raised their two sons, Philip and Michael.
George served 25 years with the Sioux City 185th and was a Vietnam Veteran. While serving in Vietnam he was exposed to Agent Orange and battled exposure symptoms for 26 years, but he never lost his spirit and continued to serve with Honor. He was an active member of the Canton, South Dakota VFW Post and later became a member of the DAV.
George was also a plumber by trade, working alongside his brother Wally at Caswell Plumbing, Heating and A/C before retiring early for medical reasons at the age of 60.
George’s Uncle and Guardian, George Pals, introduced him to various hobbies, one of his favorites being walks along the hillsides at the Sioux River near Canton. George also looked forward to his annual fishing trip into Canada with his fishing buddies. During his later years, as his health declined, George spent many hours organizing and cleaning his many collections and enjoying trips to the movie theater to watch the latest adventure movie with the Domingues boys, Bryan and Tony.
George enjoyed backyard grilling and nights around the outdoor fire pit or basement wood stove telling stories and laughing with family and friends, especially when he shared those moments with his two sons and their children.
George was a loving husband and is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 53 years. He was a dedicated and selfless father to his sons, Philip (Sandy) Caswell of Kailua, Oahu and Michael Caswell of Inwood. He was an active, proud, and loving Grandpa, affectionately referred to as “Papa” to his grandchildren, Anthony and Jacob Caswell (Philip & Sandy) and Madison Caswell (Michael). George is also survived by his sister, Irene Groeneweg (Caswell) of Hull, and sister-in-law, Joan Caswell of Inwood, both of whom he adored. George’s love was bottomless and was shared with many, including his role as surrogate Grandpa to Daniel, Deyvi, Bryan, and Tony Domingues.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Grace Caswell; sister, Lenora (Caswell) and Cornie Davelaar; brother, Wally Caswell; sister, Marge (Caswell) and Paul Visser; and brother-in-law, John Groeneweg.
He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, a cousin, an uncle and a friend to many and his spirit and chuckle will forever live in the hearts of many.
