Inwood, IA: Geneva Van Hill, 89, of Inwood, Iowa died Friday, April 28, 2017 at Fellowship Village in Inwood. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 2 at 11:00 AM at Inwood Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Sam Krikke officiating. Private family burial will be held prior at Richland Cemetery in Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be Monday, May 1 from 6:00-7:30 PM at the church.
Geneva Gerdena Van Hill, daughter of Peter and Matilda (Van Pykeran) De Jongh, was born November 12, 1927 on a farm near Boyden, Iowa. The family later moved to Hills, Minnesota where Geneva attended school before staying home to help take care of her family. Geneva married Wilbert “Bud” Van Hill on March 28, 1947 in Steen, Minnesota. The couple first farmed by the Lakewood Corner south of Rock Rapids, Iowa before moving to Alvord, Iowa where they owned and operated Bud Van Hill Trucking. In 1962, the family moved to Sioux Falls before returning to Alvord in 1972 where Geneva continued to help with the family trucking business.
Geneva and Bud retired in 1977. They moved to Inwood, Iowa in 1989, where they became the Inwood Christian Reformed Church custodians for the next 13 years. They enjoyed 7 winters together in Weslaco, Texas. Geneva enjoyed reading, camping, and music.
Survivors include her 4 children, Pam (Les) Vander Lugt of Orange City, Iowa; Marlyn (Carla) Van Hill of Alvord; Randy (Cindy) Van Hill of Inwood; and Gary Van Hill of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; son-in-law, Marvin (Donna) Kempema of Doon, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Joan De Jongh of Luverne, Minnesota.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Cheryl Kempema; and brother, Preston De Jongh.
