Gene Pottebaum

Rock Valley, Iowa: Eugene “Gene” Pottebaum, 83, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Gene’s family will be having a private family memorial service. Visitation, with family present, will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Eugene Pottebaum, son of Anton and Anna (Pick) Pottebaum, was born March 18, 1932 near Alton, Iowa. Gene was united in marriage with Eileen Dreckman and to this union 15 children were born. The couple later divorced. Gene was a dairy farmer for many years. He enjoyed collecting John Deere toy tractors and was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. Gene was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making toy chests for his grandchildren. Gene was a jokester at heart.

Gene is survived by his 9 children, Dean (Roxy) Pottebaum of Paullina, Iowa; Doug (Patti) Pottebaum of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Denny (Nina) Pottebaum of Sioux Falls; DeAnn (George) Drewes of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Doreen (Brian) Kuca of Dante, South Dakota; Donnie (Kathy) Pottebaum of Brandon, South Dakota; Dawn (Glen) Bakker of Rock Valley; Darla (Michael) Hart of Arlington, Massachusetts; and Darin (Speical Friend, Marilyn) Pottebaum of Lester, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 children, Denise, David, Duane, Dale, Dana and Danielle; 2 brothers, Tony and Howard; and 2 sisters, Bernice and Tarsella.
