Gene Woodrow Mayfield

Rock Valley, IA: Gene Woodrow Mayfield, 86, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Gene was cremated and the family will hold a private service at a later date. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley is assisting the family with arrangements.

 Gene Woodrow Mayfield, son of Woodrow John and Nina Faye (Payne) Mayfield, was born November 18, 1937, in Colorado. He attended school through the 8th grade and later obtained his GED. Gene was drafted and served in the United States Army. On June 18, 1965, Gene was united in marriage with Connie Sue Owen at Fort Morgan, Colorado. The couple made their home in Colorado until moving to Rock Valley, Iowa in 2018. Connie died January 9, 2022.

 Gene worked in the mines, mining molybdenum. In his downtime he enjoyed cutting wood.

 Gene is survived by his 3 children, Ken (Kerry) Mayfield, Lisa (John) Driesen, and Kerry (Marc) Williams; 7 grandchildren, Justin Shenk, Audra (Justin) Golson, Bridgette (Kenny) Brown, Jared Driesen, Joe Behr, Rylee Williams, and Gracie Williams; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Phyllis Mayfield and Linda Weimer; and brother, Don Mayfield.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Faye; and wife, Connie.
