Gail Blankespoor, 53, of Doon, Iowa died Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 20 at 1:00 PM at Rock Valley United Reformed Church with Rev. John Vermeer officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery of Doon. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 18, from 1:00-7:00 PM with family present from 5:00-7:00 PM at Rock Valley United Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Doon Christian School, Hull Christian School, Netherlands Reformed Christian School, or Robert Bennis Elementary School in Brandon, South Dakota.
Gail Blankespoor, daughter of Walt and Alta (Kats) Groeneweg, was born September 9, 1964 in Rock Valley, Iowa. Gail attended Rock Valley Christian School and Western Christian High School where she graduated in 1983. After graduation she worked at the Towne House Restaurant in Rock Valley, Harkers and VIP/Tophers in Sioux Center, and The Doon Steakhouse. She then started her own house cleaning business and with this, later managed properties in Rock Valley. She continued these jobs until becoming too ill.
Gail loved to decorate, she enjoyed antique items, and time spent with friends. Most of all she loved her family deeply, especially when she could take care of her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. Gail knew she was a sinner in deep need of her savior. She was a member of the Rock Valley United Reformed Church. On July 26, 1985, Gail married Henry P. (Hank) Blankespoor at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. They were married 33 years.
Gail is survived by her husband, Henry (Hank); three children, Dexter (Hannah) Blankespoor of Rock Valley, Iowa; Brett (Megan) Blankespoor of Brandon, South Dakota; Levi (Mandy) Blankespoor of Hull, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Roman John; Brinlee Rae; Pierce Liam; Jakson James; Brielle Janae; Jaycee Joelle; and Lord willing one more grandchild to be born in August; her mother whom she loved dearly, Alta Groeneweg; 2 brothers, Dennis (Joan) Groeneweg and Leon “Bob” (Cherie) Groeneweg both of Rock Valley, Iowa; and one sister, Laura (Greg) Getting of Matlock, Iowa.
Gail was preceded in death by her father, Walt Groeneweg; father-in-law, John H. Blankespoor; a nephew, Brock Kleinwolterink; and a brother-in-law, Brad Wehrkamp; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
