Frances Vande Weerd

Rock Valley, Iowa: Frances “Fran” Vande Weerd, 85, of Rock Valley died Friday, November 20, 2015 at her home surrounded by family. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Garry Nyenhuis officiating. Private family prayer service and burial at Valley View Cemetery will be held prior to the memorial service. Visitation with the family present will be Friday, November 27, 2015 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home. Frances Bernice was born March 1, 1930 in Hull, Iowa, the daughter of John E. and Effie (Vander Veen) Sitter. She graduated from Boyden High School. On September 12, 1952, Fran married Chester Vande Weerd in Boyden. Together they farmed on the family dairy and later Fran helped with Vande Weerd Combine. Fran was an active member at First Reformed Church where she enjoyed volunteering throughout the years. She was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the Minnesota Twins. But most of all, Fran enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Fran is survived by four children, Carl (LaVonne) Vande Weerd of Rock Valley; Myra Rennie of Highland, California; Cheryl (Keith) Van Beek of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Bradley (fiancé, Sherrie) Vande Weerd of Rock Valley; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; son, Howard Vande Weerd; son-in-law, Robert Rennie; brother, Chester “Chuck” Sitter; and sister, Elizabeth Cady.
