Frances "Fran" A. Gebauer

Fran Gebauer, 82, passed away peacefully while under the care of Hospice of the Valley on May 5, 2024, in Sun City West, AZ. 

Frances Amelia Gebauer was born on October 5, 1941, in Westfield, IA, the daughter of Harry Bernhardt and Eva Harding. She graduated from the first class of West Sioux High School in 1960. 

Fran married Marlin “Marty” Gebauer December 5, 1959. They made their home in Ireton, IA, where they raised their two children. Fran had a deep faith and was an active member in St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton. 

Fran enjoyed cooking, baking and hosting large family and friend gatherings. She was named the “Queen of Clean” in her family. Fran and Marty enjoyed camping and fishing in their early years and then later in retirement they wintered in McAllen, TX and then Sun City West, AZ. Fran moved to Sun City West, AZ permanently in 2021 after Marty’s passing in 2020. 

Fran is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Michael) Tsoumpas of Sun City West, AZ; her son David (Susan) Gebauer of Sun City West, AZ; also, five grandchildren and two great grandsons. She is also survived by four sisters, Deanna (Toby) Bosche of Jamestown, ND, Alyce (Jim) Wilkinson of New Braunfels, TX, Betty (Sonny) Strong of Hawarden, IA, and Doris Bernhardt of Lexington, KY, one brother Ed Bernhardt of Austin, TX, and one sister-in-law Marlene Bernhardt of Marion, KS. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Marty and brother Lee Bernhardt. 

A private graveside service will take place Friday, July 26, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
