Florence Van Beek

Rock Valley, IA: Florence Van Beek, 86, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Friday, December 27, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. The service can be audio-streamed at http://edge.mixlr.com/channel/rwkcn. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be held Monday, January 6, from 5:30-7:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School or Netherlands Reformed Senior Living.

   Florence Nelma (Winters) Van Beek was born April 27, 1938, at Rock Valley, IA to Louis and Rolena (Driesen) Winters. She was raised on a farm near Rock Valley, IA and Peas, MN. She attended school through the 10th grade. On October 1, 1956, she was united in marriage with Anthony Van Beek in Rock Valley. Their first home was in Hudson, SD. In 1957 they moved to Rock Valley. In the spring of 1959 they moved to Hendricks, MN where they started farming. In the spring of 1961, they moved and farmed near Tea, SD. In the spring of 1963, once again, they moved and farmed near Chancellor, SD. In the spring of 1970, they bought Anthony’s parents farm near Hudson, SD and continued to farm until retirement in August of 1998, when they moved to Rock Valley. Florence was a devoted homemaker who loved her family dearly. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Florence passed away, December 27, 2024, at Avera Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 86 years.

   Florence is survived by her 7 children, Ronald (Michele) Van Beek of Orange City, IA, Lavonne (Herbert) Spaans of Larchwood, IA, Audrey (James) Zomer of Orange City, IA, Glenda (Dennis) Van Roekel of Sioux Center, IA, Kevin (Tina) Van Beek of Hudson, SD, Lisa (David) Maassen of Hudson, SD, and Sheila (Jay) LeLoux of Hudson, SD; 34 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren; brother, Lloyd (Norma) Winters of Hull, IA; brothers and sisters-in- law, Diane De Haan of Orange City, IA, Harold Niemeyer, of Sioux Falls, SD, Gertrude Rozeboom of Rock Valley, IA, Gary (JoAnn)Van Beek of Rock Valley, IA, Marvin (Jeanette) Van Beek of Rock Valley, IA, Loraine (Gilbert) Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley, IA, Geneva Klarenbeek of Rock Valley, IA, Reva (Sam) Koedam of Rock Valley, IA, Arlene Van Beek of Dalhart, TX, Howard (Dee) Van Beek of Lynden, WA, Gary (Gloria) Teunissen of Rock Valley, IA, and Viola (Wes) Bonnema, of Mason City, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

   Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Van Beek, on June 29, 2022; parents, Louis and Rolena Winters; step-mother, Gertrude (Van Maanen) Winters; daughter-in-law, Janet (Kattenberg) Van Beek; brother, Kenneth Winters; sister, Lorraine Niemeyer; father and mother-in-law, Gerrit and Rolena Van Beek; brothers-in-law, Albert Van Beek, John Van Beek, Junior Van Beek, Teunis Rozeboom, Carl Dieters, and Gerrit Klarenbeek; and sisters-in-law, Tracy Dieters, Evelyn Richters, Janet Teunissen, and Wilma Van Beek.
