HAWARDEN, IOWA- Evonne B. (Kane) Graf, 87, of Hawarden, died Sunday, September 29, 2013, surrounded by all of her children, at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital in Hawarden.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Doug Klein and Father Roger Linnan concelebrating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Evonne B. (Kane) Graf was born December 29, 1925 near Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Grace (Mandan) Pluss. Her mother died when she was 5 years old and she was raised by Ray and Freda (Freerksen) Dale. Evonne changed her last name to Dale when she turned 18. She graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1943 and from the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City in 1946.
Evonne married Vinton 'Bud' Kane July 20, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden. She was employed as the office nurse for Dr. Null. Evonne was the director of nursing at the Mapes Nursing Home beginning in 1974, and then the director of nursing at Morningside Manor in Alcester, South Dakota. Bud died January 27, 1976. Evonne later married Ronald Graf and he preceded her in death.
Evonne was an active member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and had served on the Hawarden Hospital Board. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, sewing, reading, and also playing Scrabble.
She is survived by her five sons, Greg and wife Becky of Hawarden, Matt of Billings, Montana, Tom and wife Elaine of Hawarden, Marty and wife Sandy of Gillette, Wyoming, and Jamie and wife Julie of Johnston, Iowa; daughter, Molly Kane of Gillette, Wyoming; two sisters, Irene Gosch of Hawarden and Shirley Hansen of Rock Valley, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Evonne was preceded in death by her husbands; brothers, Howard and Rudy; and sister, Neva Oldham.
