Everdena Koedam

Rock Valley, IA: Everdena Koedam, 97, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. A funeral service will be held Monday, February 17, at 2:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Eric Van Beek officiating. Private family burial will follow the service at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. A time of public viewing without the family present will be held Monday, February 17, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home. 

 Everdena (Den Boer) Koedam was born on March 16, 1927, in rural Sioux County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Alice (Van Beek) Den Boer. She grew up on a farm southwest of Rock Valley, Iowa, where she learned the values of hard work and resilience. She attended school through the eighth grade.

 On June 3, 1946, Everdena married William “Bill” Koedam at the Army Chapel in Petersburg, Virginia. Together, they built a life filled with love and commitment, moving from a farm north of Hull, Iowa, to a farm near Alvord, Iowa, in 1957. In 1978, they settled in Rock Valley.

 Everdena had a servant’s heart. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Valley Manor, now Whispering Heights, where she cared for others with patience and kindness. She also volunteered at Justice for All, giving her time to help those in need.

 A woman of many talents, Everdena had a gift for sewing, adding her own creative touch to clothing repairs and designs. She loved fishing, playing the organ, and filling her home with music and laughter. She was witty and feisty, always bringing joy and warmth to those around her.

 She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who were blessed to share in her love and wisdom.

 Everdena is survived by her sons, Jerry (Pat) Koedam and Allen (Wanda) Koedam; grandchildren, Tricia (Barney) Drenth, Cindy (Todd) Hasche, Jackie (Lanny) Meendering, Angela (David) Williams, Nathan (Aimee) Koedam, and Tyler (Amy) Koedam; great-grandchildren, Zach, Ragen, Taylor, Cody, Jackson, Alexis, Faith, Ava, Aiden, Olivia, Kenzie, Katie, and James; great-great-grandchildren, Alayna, Emalynn, Wesley, and Colby; and sister-in-law, Nina Koedam. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice; and husband, Bill.
