Hawarden, IA: Eugene Keith Schlumbohm passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2016 while being visited and comforted by family members at the Alcester Care and Rehab center in Alcester, SD. Eugene was 84 years old. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27, at 2:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery of Hawarden. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Eugene Schlumbohm was born in Eagle Township, 12 miles northeast of Hawarden, Iowa on February 4, 1932. He was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. William Schlumbohm, second generation German immigrants.
Eugene proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and settled in Denver, Colorado where he became an avid Denver Broncos fan. Eugene was among the most highly successful and best known citizens in the territory. He enjoyed the esteem of his neighbors and of friends throughout the country. He loved how he only knew how to love and blessed those all he knew with his wit and intelligence.
Eugene is survived by his two sons, Sterling Schlumbohm, Stewart Schlumbohm; daughter, Yareth Schlumbohm; and granddaughters, Olivia Schlumbohm, Adlyah Schlumbohm, Madizen Schlumbohm and M’kenzie Schlumbohm. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie; two brothers, Earl and Lyle Schlumbohm; and three sisters, Irene Loe, Bernice Williams, and Betty Juffer.
