Emma De Joode

Emma DeJoode was born December 2, 1927 in Boyden, Iowa to Gerrit and Alice (Hoogland) DeVries. She was raised in Boyden and Maurice, Iowa. On December 16, 1949 Emma married Anthony DeJoode in Luverne, Minnesota. They lived in Luverne a short time and then moved to Artesia, California where their three children were born. In 1961they moved to Springvale in Isanti County, Minnesota.

Emma worked at Douglas Aircraft in California, Honeywell in Minnesota and then at the Cambridge State Hospital until she retired. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and watching hummingbirds. She also did a lot of baking and cooking. Emma was a lifelong member of the Isanti VFW Auxiliary and was a frequent blood donor for the Red Cross.

Emma passed away September 7, 2014 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 5 days. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; one sister, Jeanette; and two brothers, George and Harold. She is survived by two sons, Allen DeJoode of Stanchfield, Gary (Roxanne) DeJoode of Cambridge; one daughter, Arlene (Donald) Burda of Stark; two brothers, Alfred (Evelyn) DeVries of Sioux Center, Iowa, Leroy (Betty) DeVries of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Alyda Remes of Littleton, Colorado; two sisters-in-law, Sadie DeVries of Round Lake, Minnesota, Joyce DeVries of Hull, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Michelle (David), James (Jessica), Laura (Travis), Devon, Emily, Richard and Mckenzie; one great-grandson, Trenton; and by many other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Emma will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Alvord, Iowa.
