Emil Lange

Rock Valley, Iowa: Emil Lange, age 90, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Jim Locke officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Emil Ernest Lange was born February 12, 1923 on the family farm near Rock Valley, Iowa to Emil Simon Lange and Marie Johanna Behrman. He attended country school where he graduated from the eighth grade at the age of twelve. Emil then farmed with his older brother, Carl, until he started farming on his own at the home place.

Emil was united in marriage with Elizabeth 'Betty' Christiana Christensen on August 20, 1950 at the East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. They had four sons and one daughter. They farmed on the family farm until they moved into Rock Valley in 1979. Betty passed away on July 19, 1998. He later married Josephine Miller in May of 2000. Emil was a former member of Peace Lutheran Church and served as president of council. He currently attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Emil also served on the Farmer's Elevator Board for 6 years and bowled for the Community Oil team. Emil enjoyed helping and discussing farming with his boys until the time of his death.

Other interests and hobbies included, farming on the family farm, driving tractor, bringing lunch to the field, visiting, playing cards, traveling, watching baseball and his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.

Emil is survived by his wife Josephine of Rock Valley, IA; three sons, Larry of Sioux Falls, SD and his sons Erik, Ryan, and Timothy; Denny's children, Stephanie Heckenlaible and Matthew Lange; Glenn and his wife Cheryl of Rock Valley, IA and their children Jesse, Justin, and Shayla; Jerry and his wife Bev of Sioux Falls, SD and their children Nicole, Lucas, and Ashley; one daughter, Sharon Klinkhammer and husband Daron of Howard, SD and their sons, Nathaniel and Carter; two step-children Keith Miller and Jeri Miller; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Elsie Lohman of Rock Rapids, IA.

Emil was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; one son, Dennis 'Denny' Lange; one granddaughter, Melisse Lange; his parents; one brother; and three sisters.
