Hudson, SD: Elmer E. Tabbert, 85, of Hudson, South Dakota died Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at his home in Hudson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 28, at Hudson Lutheran Church with Pastor Kevin Jensen officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery of Hudson. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Friday, April 27 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hudson Senior Center.
Elmer Edwin Tabbert, son of Ludwig and Lydia (Geist) Tabbert, was born in Killdeer, North Dakota on April 18, 1933. Elmer worked construction as an iron worker. He helped start the Oahe Dam and numerous other dams along the Missouri River. Elmer was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Iversen, on November 24, 1957. In 1968, they bought a farm near Holabird, South Dakota, where they raised their 5 children.
Elmer loved his time with family and enjoyed following his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was always up for a game of pinochle and a good conversation. After retiring to Hudson in 2009, he enjoyed going to coffee at the Senior Center and playing cards in Alcester, South Dakota and Hawarden, Iowa. He also enjoyed supporting and attending the Alcester-Hudson Cubs sporting events. Elmer had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a great sense of humor. He maintained his strong will, aka being stubborn, right up to the end.
Elmer is survived by his children, Mike (Lynn) Tabbert of Gaffney, South Carolina; Brian (Penny) Tabbert of Hudson, South Dakota; Bruce (Wendy) Tabbert of LeMars, Iowa; and Kristin (Pat) Brueggeman of Pierre, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Vic Tabbert; Ken Tabbert; Janice Withrow; and Alice Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig and Lydia Tabbert; wife, Mary; daughter, Mary K.; grandson, Micheal; and brothers, Norm; Don; Art; and Alvin.
