Westfield, Iowa- Elmer Fred Mangelsen, 92, of Westfield, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Unity Point-St. Luke's in Sioux City, Iowa.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa with Pastor Barry Miedema officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Elmer Fred Mangelsen was born July 22, 1920 in Glenwood, Minnesota, the son of Jacob and Bessie (Transue) Mangelsen. Together with his family he moved to the Hawarden, Iowa area. He married Janice Beadle and to this union 3 children were born. He later married Floydean Blunt in January of 1960. She passed away December 15, 2000.
In 2001, Elmer married Ruth Hummel. They made their home in Westfield, Iowa. Elmer enjoyed playing pool and bingo and going fishing. He also enjoyed fixing things.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Ruth Hummel of Westfield; 2 sons, Richard of Yankton, South Dakota and Steve of Rapid City, South Dakota; Floydean's son, John Maher and wife Vivian; 2 sisters, Shirley (Darrel) Ramhorst of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Darlene McPherson of Hawarden; a brother-in-law, Loyal Neth of Klamath Falls, Oregon; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Mangelsen of Rapid City, South Dakota.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Floydean; daughter, Loretta Muehl; Floydean's son, Mike Maher; brother, Calvin; sisters, Violet Hendricks and Helen Neth; and a brother-in-law, Bruce McPherson.
