Rock Valley, IA: Mary Ellen Keegan, 84, of Rock Valley, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Whispering Heights, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Monday with Msgr. Ed Burian officiating at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley. Visitation with family present will be Sunday 2-4 pm with a Prayer Service at 3:30 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Mary Ellen was born September 6, 1929 at Sioux City, Iowa, daughter of Clarence and Elvira (Schemmer) Keegan. She graduated Rock Valley Public High School and then obtained her teaching degree at University of Northern Colorado at Greeley, Colorado. She taught 5th grade at LeMars, Iowa Public School until retirement. She enjoyed traveling and seeing the sights through-out the world; collecting various items including antiques; and always enjoyed the pet dogs that she had over the years. Mary Ellen moved back to Rock Valley in 2008 and then to Whispering Heights in March 25, 2010.

Mary Ellen is survived by her siblings and their children, Robert Keegan of Davenport, IA; Jane Richter of Rock Valley and Mark Richter, Stephen Richter, Margaret Chavez, Mary Reap, Gregory Richter, Timothy Richter; Helen (Jim) Huffington of Madison, MO and Theresa DeMent, Michel Huffington, Patricia Schuman, Christine Huffington, Daniel Huffington, Thomas Huffington; Doris (John) Kersbergen of Jackson, MO and David Kersbergen, Sonja Clause, Laura Kersbergen, Kate Kersbergen; James Keegan of Arroyoseco, NM and Michael Keegan, Elizabeth Keegan; Michael Keegen of Washington, DC and Cristi Samuels, Jessica Keegan, Shelbey Keegan.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Elvira; brother-in-law, Robert Richter.
