Inwood, IA: Ella Mae Kooistra, 84, of Inwood, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center in Canton, South Dakota. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14 at 1:00 PM, at Inwood Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Adam Eisenga officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Thursday, December 13 from 5:30-7:00 PM at Inwood Christian Reformed Church. Memorials may be given to Fellowship Village of Inwood.
Ella Mae was born November 13, 1934, to Neal and Bessie (Folkerts) Boersma at home in Inwood. She attended Inwood High School where she graduated in 1952 and met her future husband, Willis. Following graduation, she worked in the family grocery store, Neal’s Market. Ella Mae and Willis married on June 21, 1955 at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church.
One of Ella Mae’s greatest joys in life was playing games, and we all know just how good she was at them. Dominoes was a particular favorite, as well as a good round of Rummikub or shuffleboard. On family vacations, skee ball at Arnolds Park was a tradition. Ella Mae was a champion garage saler,and loved hosting family and friends in their home. Retail was an important part of her life. She started working in a grocery store at the age of 12 and was the owner of Ella Mae’s Thrift Shoppe for many years.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Chuck (Belinda) Kooistra of Tampa, FL, and Marty (Shari) Kooistra of Burien, WA; daughter, Pam (Steve) Kramer of Stromsburg, NE; 5 grandchildren, Jeromy Kooistra, Jon Kooistra, Amanda (Zac) Turbes, Dale Kramer, and Paul (Kara) Kramer; and 3 great-granddaughters, Vienna, Rayella, and Geneva Turbes. She is also survived by many close brothers and sisters-in-law.
