Larchwood, IA: Elizabeth Spaans, 83, of Larchwood, Iowa, died Friday, November 27, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 4, at 10:30 AM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. The service can be audio-streamed at https://edge.mixlr.com/channel/rwkcn. Public visitation, with no family present, will be held Thursday, December 3, from 2:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Masks are encouraged for the service and required for the visitation. Social distancing protocols will be followed.
Elizabeth (Fluit) Spaans was born on May 9, 1937, near Inwood, Iowa, daughter of William and Bertha (Korenberg) Fluit. She married Leonard Spaans on February 14, 1957 at Inwood, Iowa. Together they lived on a farm west of Larchwood, Iowa. Elizabeth enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her six children. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 63 years, Leonard of Rock Rapids, Iowa; children, Herbert (Lavonne) Spaans of Larchwood, Iowa, Deborah (Rallyn) Van Ginkel of Inwood, Iowa, Kevin (Ann) Spaans of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Linda (Leslie) Roemen of Larchwood, Iowa, Daryl (Jeanette) Spaans of Larchwood, Iowa, and Sharla (Paul) Van Beek of Orange City, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bert (Beverly) Fluit and Teunis Fluit of Inwood, Iowa; and sister, Bernice Wiekamp of Inwood, Iowa.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha Fluit; sister, Clazina Blom; brother, Gerald Fluit; 2 infant brothers; brothers-in-law, John Wiekamp and Arie Blom; sister-in-law, Leona Fluit; and niece, LaRae Wiekamp.
