Elizabeth L. Kersbergen, 91, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Garry Nyenhuis officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2:00 ' 4:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Memorials may be sent to First Reformed Church in Rock Valley and will be donated to their recent sanctuary improvements. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Elizabeth Lorraine Kersbergen, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (VandeBerg) Gorzeman, was born October 6, 1921 in Hull, Iowa. She graduated from Hull High School and went on to graduate from Samuel School of Beauty in Sioux City in 1940. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Navy veteran John Kersbergen on February 3, 1945 in Vallejo, California. Elizabeth was a hairdresser for many years. She enjoyed her time in the beauty business and loved all of her customers and friends that she gained over her 40 years in business. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Elizabeth cherished the time spent with her four sons and grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, long drives in the Iowa countryside, picnics at Newton Hills, Oak Grove and along the river. Elizabeth's favorite times were vacations at Okoboji with both family and neighbors. Elizabeth was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Rock Valley.

Elizabeth is survived by her four sons, Jack (Kathy) Kersbergen of Brighton, Colorado; Dan (Abby) Kersbergen of Marshalltown, Iowa; Mark (Carolyn) Kersbergen of Rindge, New Hampshire; and Bob Kersbergen of Sioux City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth, first husband, Raymond Koele who was an early casualty of WWII, sisters, Barbara (John) De Haan, Mina (Jerry) Dykstra, Marie (Bill) Hoekstra, Alice (Hyman) Wolfswinkel, brothers, John (Mildrid) Gorzeman, Leonard (Clarice) Gorzeman and many nieces and nephews.
