Eleanor Marienau

IRETON, IOWA – Eleanor J. Marienau, 82, of Ireton, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Unity Point-St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, LCMS in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Eleanor Jean Marienau was born October 25, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Ella (Vohs) Hageman. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural Plymouth County school and graduated from Hinton High School.

Eleanor married Leonard Marienau on April 15, 1955 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hinton, Iowa. They made their home in Ireton, Iowa. They were members of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, LCMS in Ireton. Leonard passed away November 4, 2013, they were married for 58 years.

Eleanor worked at Coilcraft in Hawarden for 17 years and Harker Tyson for 12 years when they closed.

She enjoyed cooking family dinners on Sundays and holidays, baby sitting the grandsons and great-grandchildren. She liked dancing, fishing, gardening, and being a caregiver to elderly ladies.

Survivors include two daughters, MaDonna (Gary) Holtrop and Rhonda (Michael) Hill all of Ireton; 4 grandsons, Nathan and Steff Holtrop of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ben Holtrop of Urbandale, Iowa, Michael Hill and girlfriend Elizabeth Whalley of Sioux Falls, and Matthew and Andrea Hill of Ireton; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Kovarna of Hinton; a brother, Darrell (Peggy) Hageman of Hinton; 2 sisters-in-law, Lenore Hageman of Hinton and Lorraine Lukson of Le Mars, Iowa; and many nephews and nieces.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; sister, Lorna (Jim) Rembe; 2 brothers, William Hageman and Stanley Hageman; and a brother-in-law, Larry Kovarna.
