Edwin Koedam Sr

Rock Valley, IA: Edwin J. Koedam, Sr., 79, of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Hegg Memorial Health Center of Rock Valley due to multiple myeloma cancer. Funeral service will be Friday, November 18, at 2:00 PM at Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be Thursday, November 17, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley or Avera McKennan Foundation in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Edwin John Koedam was born on June 20, 1937, to James and Marie (Van Ginkel) in Doon, Iowa. He attended school in rural Doon. On April 30, 1955, he married Nina Zomer in Corsica, South Dakota. They farmed by Doon until 1978. He then began trucking until 2008, at which time he retired. They moved to Rock Valley, Iowa in 1998. Edwin was a lifelong member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley where he served as elder from 1968 to 1978 and again from 2008 to 2012. He greatly enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He spent much of his spare time reading.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nina Koedam of Rock Valley; 7 children, Judy Thompson and Dale Thompson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Joyce (Leroy) Winter of Boyden, Iowa, Douglas (Lynette) Koedam of Sioux Falls, David (Teresa) Koedam of Doon, Linda (Randy) Kaskie of Rock Valley, Edwin (Lori) Koedam Jr., of Larchwood, Iowa, and Richard (Kari) Koedam of Rock Valley; 25 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, William “Bill” (Everdena) Koedam, and James (Wilma) Koedam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie; sister, Gertrude (John) Den Boer; and infant brother, Edwin John.
