Akron, Iowa ~Edna Tellinghuisen, 89, of Akron, Iowa, formerly of Hawarden, Iowa and Guthrie Center, Iowa, died to this life on Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Hawarden Community Church in Hawarden with Rev. Cal Ver Mulm officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Holman Cemetery in Sibley, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Edna (Viken) Tellinghuisen was born December 28, 1926, to Anton and Harda (Olson) Viken at their farm near Litchville, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in North LaMoure Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of Litchville High School, attended beauty school, and cared for her mother up to her death. On November 1, 1958, she married Hiram Tellinghuisen in Breckenridge, Minnesota. They had two children, David and Donald. Hiram passed away October 12, 1978.
Edna lived many years in Guthrie Center, Iowa, before moving to Hawarden, Iowa, and most recently, the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Guthrie Center where she was actively involved in women’s groups. She retired from her work as a dietary aide at the Guthrie County Hospital. When living in Hawarden, she attended the Hawarden Community Church. She was a loving mother and adored her grandchildren.
She is survived by sons, David (Kelly), Bradenton, Florida, and Donald (Rebecca), Grand Rapids, Michigan, as well as her grandchildren, Ryan, Laura, Owen, and Luke. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
