HAWARDEN, IOWA – Duane W. Meether, 90, of Hawarden, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Canton, South Dakota.

   Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden with Rev. Joshua Lowe officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be Wednesday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. The family prefers memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church LCMS in Hawarden or LCMS Mission Central in Mapleton, Iowa.

   Duane Wilfred Meether was born January 9, 1930 near Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Elizabeth (Tieden) Meether. He attended school in Hawarden graduating from Hawarden High School with the Class of 1947.

   In April of 1948 Duane joined the United States Air Force serving in both Korea and Japan. He was Honorably discharged in April of 1952. In September of 1952 Duane entered the University of South Dakota graduating in June of 1956 with a B.S. degree in Applied Science.

   On June 18, 1954 Duane was united in marriage to Ada Ann Rozell at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden. This union was blessed with 4 children, Lori, Michael, Matthew, and Stuart. In June of 1956, the couple moved to Wisconsin where Duane was employed in the Engineering Department of Fairbank Morse.

   The family moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa in June of 1966 where Duane was employed in the Engineering Department of John Deere and Company. Duane retired from John Deere in June of 1987 to help care for his wife Ada. Ada passed away on November 30, 1987.

   On April 8, 1989 Duane was united in marriage to Lois J. Boisen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden. Together they made their home in Hawarden.

   Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Elizabeth Meether; his first wife, Ada; son, Matthew L. Meether; stepson, Steve Boisen; stepdaughter, Sharon K. McGuire; and 3 brothers, Art (Marion) Meether, Marvin Meether, and John (Ruth) Meether.

   Duane is survived by his wife, Lois J. Meether of Hawarden; daughter, Lori A. Childs of Hudson, Iowa; sons, Michael (Ginny) Meether of Indianola, Iowa and Stuart (Elizabeth) Meether of Wichita, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Lisa Meether of Parkersburg, Iowa; step son-in-law, Jim McGuire; 10 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
