Inwood, Iowa: Douglas Earl Niles, 74, of Inwood, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Sanford Canton-Inwood Hospital in Canton, South Dakota. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.

  Doug was born on December 19, 1950, to Earl and LaVonne (Bachman) Niles. He grew up in Englevale, ND where he attended grade school and graduated from Verona High School in 1968. After high school he joined the U.S. Airforce. Upon completion of his military service, he attended North Dakota State School of Science and the University of North Dakota. Doug worked in the Banking and Financial field until his retirement.

  Doug met Vicki Lynn (Rich) Bakis at a horse stable in Renner, SD. Seven years later, on March 21, 2003, they were married. Doug and Vicki bought property in Northwest Inwood, IA where they raised Arabian Horses. They enjoyed country life and spending time with each other. Doug enjoyed horses his entire life. Doug and Vicki bred, showed, and sold Arabian and Half Arabian horses. They traveled to various horse shows and rodeos. 

  Doug enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was an avid reader of books of all kinds. He also enjoyed watching all kinds of sports and rodeos.

 Doug is survived by his wife, Vicki Lynn Niles; stepson, Shane Thompson and 2 step granddaughters, Cassidy Thompson and Alliyah Thompson; sister, LuAnn (Edward) Burns; and many relatives and friends.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and LaVonne Niles; and in-laws, Fred and Donna Collings.
