Hudson, SD: Douglas J. Haverhals, 65, of Hudson, South Dakota died Friday, August 19, 2016 at his home in Hudson. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Lebanon Christian Reformed Church of rural Sioux Center, Iowa with Rev. Cory Van Sloten officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Visitation with the family present will also be held Friday, August 26, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. with a time to share memories at 6:30 p.m. at Hudson Lutheran Church in Hudson, South Dakota. Douglas James Haverhals was born December 27, 1950 in Hudson, South Dakota, the son of Adrian and Jennie (Kooi) Haverhals. He attended Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. In the early years of his life, he farmed. Later he worked at the Hudson Elevator and at Poet Biorefining of rural Hudson. He retired from Poet in 2014 after a bout with encephalitis.
Doug was a loyal Minnesota Twins fan. He loved attending games in Minneapolis and following the careers of the players. He knew a great deal of Twins trivia. He enjoyed visiting and sharing stories with his friends.
Doug is survived by his siblings: Marie Jansen (Ed) of Clara City, Minnesota; Greta Cavanaugh of New York City, New York; John Haverhals (Bernice) of Peoria, Illinois; Robert Haverhals (Valerie) of Hudson; Arthur Haverhals (Christa) of Taber, Alberta, Canada; and Laurence of Sun City, Arizona. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Jennie Haverhals.
