Dorothy Van Wyhe

HAWARDEN, IOWA – Dorothy Van Wyhe, 87, of Hawarden, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

   Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden with Rev. Joshua Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS. 

   The Van Wyhe family prefers memorials be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden.

   Dorothy Van Wyhe was born February 10, 1935 to Sam and Alice (Dekker) Miedema in Canton, South Dakota. She attended school in Fairview, South Dakota through the 8^th grade. At the age of 15, Dorothy went and lived with different families as she did daily tasks of cooking and cleaning for room and board.

   She married Ray Van Wyhe on February 12, 1960. Together they had 2 sons, Kevin and David. They lived on a farm west of Ireton, Iowa as Dorothy was the cleaning lady for many businesses and families. They retired to Hawarden, Iowa and Dorothy moved into Hillcrest Health Care Services in October of 2021.

   Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, cardinals, and doing her cleaning. She will be missed.

   Dorothy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ray; son, Kevin (Fran) Van Wyhe of Hawarden; daughter-in-law, Judy Van Wyhe of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren, Alycia (Trent) Kielty of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Tyler (Alyssa) Van Wyhe of Hawarden, and Ryan Van Wyhe of Sioux City; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lincoln, Jack, and Ronan Kielty, and Addi, Emma, and Clara Van Wyhe; and 2 sisters, Frieda Kortlever of Orange City, Iowa and Hilda Kratochvil of Tucson, Arizona.

   Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Van Wyhe on August 12, 2021; 3 brothers, John, Clarence, and Chuck; and 2 brothers-in-law, Pete Kortlever and Darrell Kratochvil.
