INWOOD, IOWA ~ Donald G. Kruse, 83, of Inwood, died on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Fellowship Village in Inwood, Iowa.
Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 17th at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Private family inurnment will follow in the Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Inwood. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The family prefers memorials to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund or Fellowship Village.
Donald Glen Kruse was born December 17, 1933 east of Inwood, Iowa, the son of John and Margaret (Kappelman) Kruse. He was baptized and confirmed at the Christ Lutheran Church in Alvord, Iowa. He graduated from the Inwood High School in 1951.
Don married Myrtle “Myrt” Atz on May 19, 1956 at Okabena, Minnesota. Together they farmed for many years on the Kruse Family Farm. Don later was a self-employed carpenter. They moved in 1992 into the home they built together west of Inwood. They later moved into town.
Don was a long-time member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood. He had served with the South Dakota Air National Guard for 9 years. He enjoyed wood working, playing cards (especially pinochle), camping, and traveling. Don loved watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Myrt Kruse of Inwood; son, Scott and wife Annie Kruse of Larchwood, Iowa; daughter, Michele and husband Bo Myroniuk of Apple Valley, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
Don was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; an infant stillborn son; sisters, Viola Basquin and Elsie Johnson; brothers, Herman, Edwin, Melvin, and Walter Kruse.
