Dolores Gort

Doon, IA: Dolores Gort, 79, of Doon, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial Service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the United Reformed Church, Doon. Private family burial will be prior to the Memorial Service at the Hillside Cemetery. Rev. Simon Lievaart will be officiating. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:30-7:30 pm Friday at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa. Dolores “Dee” was born August 18, 1936 at Carmel, Iowa, the daughter of John and Agnes (Van Gelder) Koel. The family moved northwest of Rock Rapids, IA where Dee grew up and graduated from Rock Rapids High School. Dee married Earl Gort on February 11, 1955 at Rock Rapids and together they lived west of Doon. Dee enjoyed helping with farming, her vegetable and flower gardens, and planting trees. Dee also enjoyed all the friendships she had golfing and bowling.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Earl; children, Bonnie (Kelvin) Brower of Inwood, IA, Wade (Jan) Gort of Rock Valley; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Cora Lee) Koel of Rock Rapids, IA, James (Cheri) Koel of Elkhorn, NE, Greg Koel of Hills, MN; sister, Virginia Hobson of Doon, IA.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Koel; brother-in-law, Dick Hobson; and an infant sister.
