Hudson, SD: Dennis Schlup, age 71, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at his home in Hudson, due to cancer. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at Hudson Lutheran Church at Hudson. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery at Hudson. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Hudson Lutheran Church. Dennis Schlup was born February 17, 1944 at Hudson, South Dakota son of John and Dorothy (Smith) Schlup. He graduated Hudson High School in 1962. Dennis served in the U.S. Air Force from May 29, 1962 until he was honorably discharged in 1965. He trained as a ground radio operator at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi before being stationed in Berlin, Germany. He graduated USD at Springfield, South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in History. Dennis married Jeanne Frick on October 16, 1971 and together they were Dorm Parents at USD Springfield before moving to Hudson. Dennis worked in the sand and gravel industry several years before working for Hudson Feed and Grain (now known as Farmers Elevator) before retiring as Feed Mill Manager in 2004. Dennis enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, remote control airplanes, camping, and woodworking. He was a member of the Hudson Fire Department and the Beresford Area Radio Flyer Club.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Jeanne; sons, Todd (Teresa) Schlup of Beresford, South Dakota, Michael (Amy Nightingale) Schlup of Hudson, South Dakota; daughter, Kara (Josh Huenink) Schlup of Hawarden, Iowa; grandchildren, Thaine, Thatcher, Tianna, Kaleb, and Evy; sister, Diane (Al) Wieman of Madison, South Dakota and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; and an infant son, John.
