HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Dennis Scott Birmes, 50, of Hawarden, Iowa died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Inurnment at the Grace Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Dennis Scott Birmes was born February 15, 1964 at the Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Jack and Glenda (Cromwell) Birmes. He was baptized in the Baptist Church. Dennis graduated from the Visual and Performing Arts High School in 1982. He later attended the Police Academy. Dennis was on the St. Louis Police Force for 5 years. He worked as a cook at the Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois and then did various other jobs.
Dennis married Staci Janssen on September 17, 1994 at the Lutheran Church in Skokie, Illinois. They moved their family to Hawarden, Iowa in 2012. Dennis enjoyed bowling and eating good food!
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Staci of Hawarden and their two children, Ashlee and Dylan; his parents, Jack and Glenda of Arnold, Missouri; three brothers and their families, Jeff and wife Kathy and children, Jonathan, Cory, and Lauren of Missouri, Robert and wife Cathy and children Kiersten and Kelby of Missouri and Jimmie and wife Teresa and children Jerzee and Kody of Minnesota; a sister, Terry and husband Mark Berlin and children Mark and wife Megan and Matt of Missouri; his parents-in-law, Marlin and Barb Janssen of Hawarden; sister-in-law, Lori Janssen of Seattle, Washington; and Staci’s grandfather, Lorenz Janssen of Hawarden.
Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glenn and Elsie Cromwell and William “Bill” and Dorothy Birmes; and Staci’s grandmother, Bernice Janssen.
