HAWARDEN, IOWA- Darlene L. 'Mick' Rummel, 83, of Sioux City, formerly of Hawarden, died Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City after an illness of several months.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Roger Linnan celebrating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Public viewing will be from noon to 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Viewing will continue at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
Darlene was born on February 11, 1930 to Orlene and Tena (Jager) Liston. She grew up in the large Liston family in Hawarden, Iowa and attended the Hawarden Schools, graduating from Hawarden High Schools.
Darlene married Raymond L. Rummel on August 9, 1950 in Hawarden and they made their home in Hawarden. Mr. Rummel died in 1995.
She was employed with the Farmer's State Bank in Hawarden for many years. She served on the Hawarden Hospital Board after retiring and enjoyed giving back to her community in this way. She was active in the St. Mary's Church until her move to Sioux City.
Darlene moved to the Northern Hills Independent Living community in Sioux City several years ago to be nearer to her family and grandchildren. She made many friends there and enjoyed many activities. She resided at Touchstone Hospice Center for the last month of her life after several hospitalizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 9 brothers, Lee Liston, Lloyd Liston, Daryl Liston, Howard Liston, Wesley Liston, Duane Liston, Lawrence Liston, James Liston, and Roger Liston; 2 sisters, Vivian Finch and Betty Gronemeyer; brother-in-law, Harry Rummel, and sister-in-law, Loretta Rummel of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Mick is survived by her daughter, Holly Mead and her husband David of Sioux City; 3 grandchildren, Adam Mead and his wife Diana of Johnston, Iowa, Kiel Mead of Sioux City, and Jaime Mead of Marion, Iowa; also 2 great-grandsons, Alex and Austin Mead of Johnston; 3 sisters, Myra Heuer and Neva Busch both of Rock Valley, Iowa and Cindy McKee of Hawarden; 2 brothers, Norman Liston of St. Paul, Minnesota and Dick Liston and his wife Judy of Hawarden; 2 sisters-in-law, Karen Liston of Texas and Diane Liston of Alcester, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
