Hawarden, Iowa- Harry Dale 'Dale' Yungeberg, 89, of Hawarden, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present beginning at 5:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Harry Dale 'Dale' Yungeberg was born September 3, 1924 on west side Iowa Lake, in Emmet County, near Armstrong, Iowa, the son of Harrison Ernest and Bertha Ellen (Arganbright) Yungeberg. The family moved to a farm 2 miles south and 1 mile west of Armstrong living there until Dale was 16. They then moved to a farm 1 mile east and a mile north of Armstrong. Dale graduated from Armstrong High School in 1942, where he was an avid baseball player. He was inducted in the US Army in 1944 at the age of 19 and went to Fort Hood, Texas. After his military service he and his father bought sales barns in Armstrong and Algona, Iowa. Dale attended auctioneering school in Mason City and was an auctioneer for many years in Algona.
Dale married Rachel Volentine on July 10, 1949 in Algona. They moved to Platte, South Dakota in 1965 where he bought cattle for Iowa Beef Packers. The family moved to Hawarden, Iowa in 1967, where he bought cattle for Kanes Dressed Beef, Rath Pack, Raskin Pack, and Blue Ribbon of Hospers.
He enjoyed antiques, fishing, playing cards, pool, and golf, and also doing woodworking.
Dale is survived by his wife, Rachel of Hawarden; three children, Nancy (Marlie) Eilts of Ireton, Iowa, Marilyn (Dennis) Plueger of Le Mars, Iowa, and Ernest (Mary) Yungeberg of Valley Springs, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Velma Yungeberg, Delores Thilges and her husband Leroy, and Marie Volentine; brother-in-law, Robert Leineger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray; 3 sisters, Jane Drinen, Theresa Ovellete, and Wanda as a young child; 2 other infant siblings; his parents-in-law, Jess and Mabel (Fox) Volentine; 4 brothers-in-law, Robert Dodds, Don Volentine, Durwood Rutledge, and Ralph Drinen;; and 2 sisters-in-law, Vivian Leineger and Darlene Rutledge.
