Courtney Elbers

Alvord, Iowa ~ Courtney Elbers, age 87, of Alvord, Iowa, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, Iowa.

 Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2024, at Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. Stanley Groothof officiating. The service will be livestreamed at https://livestream.com/accounts/17373723/trinitycrcservices. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Sunday, December 29, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Haven International Ministries (HHIM).

 Courtney was born January 10, 1937, near Hull, Iowa. He was the son of Henry and Gertrude (Groeneweg) Elbers. He attended country school south of Rock Valley, Iowa through the 8th grade. He then worked with his parents on the farm in the Rock Valley and later Alvord area. Courtney was also in the Army Reserve from October 1958 – October 1964.

 He was united in marriage to Myrna De Boer of Hospers, Iowa on June 21, 1961, at the First Christian Reformed Church of Hospers. They lived and farmed by Alvord. They were married for 62 years. Myrna passed away February 19, 2024.

 Courtney enjoyed living and working on the farm, being outdoors and taking care of animals. He enjoyed attending farm shows and ag related events. He also enjoyed family gatherings and going out to eat with friends. Courtney was a member of the Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.

 Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Carla and Brian Koedam of Sioux Center, Iowa, Mike and Tami Elbers of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Carl and Melissa Elbers of Rock Valley, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. 

 He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Myrna; and his parents, Henry and Gertrude Elbers.
