Cornie Van Veldhuizen

Cornie Van Veldhuizen, 82, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2013 at Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 6:00 ' 8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Netherlands Reformed Christian School or Whispering Heights. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Cornelius 'Cornie' was born January 11, 1931 at Artesia, California, son of Aart and Cornelia (Brouwer) Van Veldhuizen. He served in the U.S. Army in 1952. Cornie married Sybil Vander Boon on September 22, 1954 at Rock Valley. Together they farmed in Iowa and later he worked on a dairy in California. They briefly moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Cornie worked at Ada Beef. They then returned to farm Southwest of Inwood for 43 years. Sybil died September 14, 1991. Cornie married Bernice Klarenbeek on June 26, 1996. Due to health reasons he moved to Fellowship Village at Inwood in August of 2010 and to Whispering Heights at Rock Valley on January 28, 2011.

Cornie is survived by his wife, Bernice; ten children, Corinne (Dave) Spaans of Sioux Center, Joyce (Gerrit) Bakker of Inwood, Arnold (Donna) Van Veldhuizen of Inwood, Charles (Gail) Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, Marlene (Bill) Greendyk of Grand Rapids, MI, Audrey (Roger) Solberg of Boyden, Rhonda (Evan) LeLoux of Doon, Sheila (Rick) Koenen of Rock Valley, Phyllis (Loren) Blankespoor of Rock Valley, Kristi (Greg) De Jager of Alvord; three step-children, David (Karrie) Klarenbeek, Darwyn (Renee) Klarenbeek, LeAnn (Allen) Post all of Alvord; 62 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; sister, Jennie (George) Rus of Rock Valley; sisters-in-law, Ida Van Veldhuizen of Burlington, IA, Margie Vanden Toorn of Sioux Center, Hermina Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley; the Vander Boon and Hoogendoorn families.

Cornie was preceded in death by his parents, Aart and Cornelia; first wife, Sybil; an infant son; 3 infant grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Van Veldhuizen; brothers, Peter, Jasper, John, Arthur, Joe, Arie Van Veldhuizen; sister, Dora Koops; step-son, Arlen Klarenbeek.
