Hawarden, Iowa – Colleen Carol Maher, 51, of Hawarden, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Sanford USD Medical Center Heart Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Doug Klein officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Colleen Carol Dew Maher was born February 26, 1965 in Sioux City, Iowa to Carol and Vernon Dew. She grew up in Merrill, Iowa. Colleen graduated from Le Mars Community High School.
Colleen married Ryan Maher in November 3, 2006, in Hawarden, Iowa, where they settled in 2007 and made their home. Colleen and Ryan, adopted three beautiful children, Reyna, Scott and Genna in March 2011.
Colleen enjoyed traveling and has lived in Rapid City, S.D., where she worked at Family Thrift Grocery Store, Mileage Plus and Black Hills Power and Light. She moved to Denver, CO for a few years, then to Seattle, WA and worked for G & K, before moving back to Iowa and worked for First Financial Bank where she met her soul mate, Ryan Maher.
Colleen enjoyed, before her health declined, reading, gardening, fishing, traveling, boating, spending time with family, friends and her church. Most of all she loved spending time with her husband and children, all of whom she loved dearly. They were her pride and joy. She will be missed by those that knew her, especially her family and close friends.
Survivors include her husband Ryan and three children, Reyna Rose, Scott Peter and Genna Carol Jean of Hawarden, Iowa; her sisters, Susan Burns of Westminster, CO., Stephanie Cook and her husband Keith of Covington, Wash., her brother, Vernon Dew, Jr. and his wife Laura of Kansas City, Mo., sister, Deborah Frisk and her husband Douglas of Rapid City, S.D., brother, Rodger A. Dew of Denver, CO., and brother in-law, Marty Maher and his wife Lisa of Orlando FL., her friend and adopted mom, Grandma Cyd and special friends, who called her sister, Tomi and Steve Cobb of Hawarden; as well as several nieces and nephews and many close friends she considered family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carol and Vernon Dew; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Connie and Joe Maher; grandmother, Madeline Krommenhoek; infant sister and brother, Wendy Sue and Bruce Ellis; twin niece and nephew, Keith and Rachel Cook; and brother-in-law, William Gonzales.
