Clazina Spaans, age 81, of Rock Valley, Iowa, formerly of Corsica, South Dakota, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley from 6:30 8:00 PM. A second visitation, with family present, will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Netherlands Reformed Christian School in Corsica from 6:30 8:00 PM with a prayer service being held at 7:45 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Corsica on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery of Corsica. Porter Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements in Rock Valley and Koehn Brothers Funeral Home is handling the arrangements in Corsica. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.
Clazina (Rozeboom) Spaans, daughter of Gerrit and Antonia (Fluit) Rozeboom, was born on November 25, 1932 in Inwood, Iowa. Clazina was united in marriage with Herman Spaans on February 6, 1952 in Sioux County, Iowa. In 1954, the couple moved to South Dakota where they farmed until they moved into Corsica in 1991. Herman died on October 31, 2000. Clazina moved back to Iowa in 2013, and entered Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Her hobbies included needlework and playing musical instruments. She especially enjoyed playing the organ and was an organist for her church for 50 years.
Clazina is survived by her 10 children, Martena (Darrell) Hause of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Anna May (Dale) Vaughn of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Dorothy (Lyle) Dewald of Mitchell, South Dakota; Gloria (Alan) Van Bemmel of Rock Valley, Iowa; Harvey (Lavonne) Spaans of Hull, Iowa; Calvin (Evelyn) Spaans of Corsica, South Dakota; Sarah (Steve) Boluyt of Sand Lake, Michigan; Karol (Brian) Iburg of Mitchell; Karen (Steve) Johnson of Corsica; and Carla Bazen of Kentwood, Michigan; 46 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gertrude (John H.) Van Beek of Rock Valley; Tony (Marcia) Rozeboom of Breuno, Arkansas; Len (Freida) Rozeboom of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and Jennieva (Willis) Den Boer of Rock Valley; and 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Rozeboom of Rock Valley and Ada Rozeboom of Mayer, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerrit and Antonia Rozeboom; husband, Herman Spaans; brothers, Dick, Teunis and Gary Rozeboom; and 2 great-grandchildren, Peyton Ymker and Addalyn Ymker.
