Christina Rus

Rock Valley, Iowa: Christina 'Katherine' Rus, age 91, of Sioux Center, Iowa, formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Royale Meadows in Sioux Center, Iowa. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Christina 'Katherine' was born May 24, 1922 in rural Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Wulfert and Gertrude (Bloemendaal) Wallenburg. She married Cornelius 'Cornie' Rus on December 12, 1944 in Rock Valley. Katherine had the important job of raising their children and later worked at Hope Haven for more than 20 years. Katherine loved anything with fabric including sewing, crocheting, and needle work. She also enjoyed visiting and spending time with her family. Katherine was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. On April 4, 2013 she had a stroke and later that year, broke her hip.

Those left to cherish Katherine's memory are her husband, of nearly 69 years, Cornie of Sioux Center; children, Frank and Linda Rus of Grand Rapids, MI, Joel and Fran Rus of Hudsonville, MI, Jerry and Londa Rus of Sioux Center, Marion and Judy Rus of Greenville, MI, Gloria Buus of Harrisburg, SD, Mel and Brenda Rus of Zeeland, MI, Harlan and Carla Rus of Sioux Center, Virgil and Mary Rus of West Olive, MI, Howard and Janelle Rus of Sioux Center, Harold and Lynda Rus of Sioux Center and Edwin Rus of Waterloo, IA; sister, Gertrude (Herman) Rus of Corsica, SD; 34 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; son and daughter-in-law, Willie and Sharon Rus; grandsons, Trevor and Jamie Rus; great granddaughter, Sophie Rus; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Dora Wallenburg, John and Nellie Wallenburg, Wilfred (Bill) and Della Wallenburg; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Andy Boon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jake and Josie Van Roekel, and 3 infant brothers.
