Christene J. VanHouten

Christene Joyce VanHouten (nee DeBoom), 86, of Hawarden, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lynette (Roy) and Cheri (Jim); three grandchildren, Meghan, Ashley, and Patrick; two stepdaughters, Sue (Sam) and Debbie; step-grandchildren Samantha, Diana, Jake, and Jenny. Chris is also survived by two sisters, Betty Schut (Herlan) and Esther Altena; two brothers, Clifford (Tracy) and Robert (Geri) and Gerrit’s special friend, Mary Landry as well as many nieces and nephews

Christene was predeceased by her parents, John and Gertrude DeBoom; her husband, Ivan; and her brothers Richard and Gerrit; brother-in-law Leroy Altena, and sister-in-law Betty June DeBoom.

She lived a life of service and devotion to her Heavenly Father and her family. She was a dearly beloved daughter, wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed and held close in our hearts always.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Oak Hill Assisted Living for their wonderful care of Christene, especially Becky, with whom she had a special bond.

Memorial graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2021 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church officiating. The service will be taped and uploaded to this website later that day.
