IRETON, IOWA ~ Carolyn Kay Bertram, 57, of Ireton, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. Carolyn’s family prefers memorials be directed to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton.

Carolyn Kay Bertram was born June 18, 1967, on Father’s Day during the Grand Opening of the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Allan “Bic” and Jean (Hamilton) Bertram. She was baptized and a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa. When Carolyn was little, she was the flower girl of her Uncle John and Aunt Cindy’s Wedding in July of 1972. Carolyn attended West Sioux Community Schools, where she participated in 4H, as a manager for the football and basketball teams, as well as playing clarinet in the band. She graduated from West Sioux in 1985 and then attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion for accounting, graduating in 1989.

After graduation, Carolyn worked for Greenberg’s Jewelers, US Bank, and enjoyed working at Valley Fair in the summers. Most recently, she worked at the corporate office for Well’s Blue Bunny in Le Mars. She had lived in Sioux City, Iowa, Marshall, Minnesota, and Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving back home to Ireton in 2005.

Carolyn was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams, the Minnesota Stars Hockey, and the Minnesota Twins.

She is survived by her sister, Lori Bertram of Brookings, South Dakota; brother, Mark Bertram and wife Hilary of Ireton and their children, Carson, Mason, and Addison; aunts and uncles, Robert Hamilton of Le Mars, Cindy Hamilton of Chariton, Iowa, Joyce Rosenboom of Lexington, Kentucky, Jim and Gloria Bertram of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Tom and Delores Bertram of Sioux City; and several cousins and friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Allan “Bic” on April 4, 2006, and Jean on April 27, 2024; her grandparents, David and Ellen Hamilton, Dorothy Nicolson Bertram, and Lorenz and Harriet Bertram; and aunts and uncles, Jo Ellen Hamilton, Thomas Hamilton, John Hamilton, Jean Eilers, Chuck Bertram, Larry Bertram, and Karen Brockmann.
