HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Carmen Shirley Green, 99, of Hawarden, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Oakhill Assisted Living in Hawarden.
A Private Family Service will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with Pastor Samuel Ansong of the Hawarden United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery.
Carmen Shirley Green was born May 21, 1924, the daughter of Roy and Christina (Eickholdt) Edmunds on a farm southeast of Hawarden, Iowa. She grew up there and attended Hawarden Schools through the tenth grade.
Carmen married Lyle Green on February 20, 1941, in Hawarden. They made their home in Hawarden where they raised their family and Carmen worked at Coilcraft for 23 years. Carmen was a Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary member for over 40 years, where she volunteered and cut out quilt patches for many years. She was a Foster Grandparent for 9 years at West Sioux Elementary School. Carmen also volunteered at Hillcrest Health Care Services for several years and she enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Lyle passed away on January 16, 1993.
Carmen is survived by her son, Ronald and wife Connie Green of Hawarden; 6 grandchildren, Matt (Kelly) Green, Jennifer (Frank) Schuller, Teresa (Jim) Feldhacker, Dana Curiel, Jill (Evan) Vander Feen, and Cody Green; 11 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; son, Marlo “Butch” Green; 2 brothers, Milo Edmunds and his wife Lois Edmunds Hopp and Dale Edmunds and his wife Lorraine; a sister, Edna Garner; and great-grandson, Eric Curiel.
