Hawarden, Iowa~Betty Marie Anderberg, 86, of Hawarden, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with Rev. Erma Wolf officiating. Burial will follow the luncheon at the Peace Lutheran Cemetery rural Alcester, South Dakota. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Betty Marie Anderberg was born March 30, 1928 on the family farm near Alcester, South Dakota, the daughter of Oscar and Myrtle (Rans) Anderson. She attended the Ludwig School, walking the 4 miles to school.
Betty met the love of her life, Robert Anderberg, at a dance in Canton, South Dakota, the day after he returned from the Navy. Their courtship included lots of dances, movies, and attending family affairs with both of their families during the holidays. She married Robert on a cold and snowy evening, February 28, 1948 at the Peace Lutheran Church rural Alcester. They lived in Elk Point, South Dakota and Wakonda, South Dakota. Betty was employed in Sioux City at Montgomery Fashions, Sparkle Uniforms, and later as a waitress at a truck stop in North Sioux City. The couple moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1968 where Betty worked with the Grain Terminal Office until her retirement in 1980. They moved to Hawarden, Iowa in 1983.
Robert passed away July 13, 2012.
Betty was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden, the ELCA, the Hawarden Eagle’s Club, and over the years a member at several golf courses. She enjoyed her time volunteering at Hillcrest Health Care Services. Betty liked crocheting and knitting when she was younger, and she and Robert enjoyed playing cards, square dancing in kitchens, attending barn dances, and having picnics with their friends.
She is survived by several nephews and nieces; and brothers-in-law, Herbert (Verla) Anderberg of Yankton, South Dakota and Norman (Ginny) Anderberg of Denver, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Robert; a sister; 2 brothers; and a foster brother.
The family request memorials are made to Mica Hill Estates or Hillcrest Health Care Services in memory of Betty and in honor of the great care she received in recent years from their staff members.
