HAWARDEN, IOWA – Audrey Gaul, 89, of Hawarden, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The family prefers memorials be directed to the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store, West Sioux Educational Foundation, or the Hawarden United Methodist Church.
Audrey Jean Gaul was born to Reuben and Myrtle (Aldrich) Anderson on April 6, 1930. She grew up on a farm near Alcester, South Dakota, attending country school and later high school in Alcester. After graduating she attended USD for a semester, taking art classes, and then started working for the phone company.
On January 28, 1951, she married Bob Gaul. They lived in Hawarden, Iowa for the majority of their marriage and raised their four children, Kathy, Karen, Connie, and Steve. Bob died suddenly on August 10, 1976.
Audrey loved to sew, draw, paint, decorate, read and walk. She also loved to watch her grandchildren play sports and was their most avid fan. Audrey enjoyed belonging to many clubs, sorority, church groups, PEO, and the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Huitink of Hawarden, Karen (Gary) Marshall of Vermillion, South Dakota, Connie (Ronnie) Koopmans of Ireton, Iowa, and Steve (Renee) Gaul of Hawarden; 10 grandchildren and their families, Mike (Sandy) Huitink and their children, Luke and Katie; Jon (Melissa) Huitink and their children, Lauren and Alex; Dan (Jenna) Huitink and their children, Thomas, Allie, Katelyn, and Haley; Zach (Chelsea) Huitink; Rob (Kelly) Marshall and their children, Mady, Brooks, and Brandt; Kelly Tepe and her children, Kiera, Logan, and Mason; Ryan (Ashley) Koopmans and their children, Annabel, Henry, and Rae; Ross (Mollie) Koopmans and their children, Norah, Nash, and Nolan; Becky (Joe) Vander Broek and their children, Cael and Cade; and Derek Gaul.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; son-in-law, Terry Huitink; and sister, Maxine Kratochvil and her husband Charlie.
