Art Kooima

Rock Valley, IA: Arthur Kooima, 96, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Whispering Heights of Rock Valley. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 22 at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley. Burial will be prior at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 21 at Trinity CRC. Arthur Kooima was born December 29, 1919, son of Tim and Gert (Groeneweg) Kooima. Art married Theresa Bartman on May 1, 1945 at Rock Valley. Art served 2 years in the U.S. Navy during WW II before farming near Fairview, South Dakota and then in 1963 west of Rock Valley and retired to Rock Valley in 1981. Art was charter member, Elder, Deacon, and janitor of Trinity Christian Reformed Church; original board member of Hope Haven; board member and bus driver of Rock Valley Christian School; and was a charter member of Valley Male Chorus. Art enjoyed golf, playing cards, checkers, and billiards at the Senior Center with his friends. Theresa died on January 25, 1999.

Surviving relatives include sons, Bruce (Linda) Kooima of Rock Valley, Dave (Diana) Kooima of Hull, Iowa, Scott (Pam) Kooima of Rock Valley, Preston (Sue) Kooima of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughters-in-law, Carol Kooima of Rock Valley, Kristi Stroeh of Luverne, Minnesota; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Rozeboom of Rock Valley; and brother-in-law, Ted Ribbens of Sioux Center, Iowa.

Art was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; sons, Jerry and Kelvin Kooima; siblings, Sam T. Kooima, Adrianna Kooima, Traci Harmsen, Paul Kooima, Ed Kooima, Lawrence Kooima, and Lois Ribbens.
