Arlo D. Kircher, 88, of Hawarden, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, at Unity Point Health St. Luke's in Sioux City.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 15, at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, October 14, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Arlo was born on October 29, 1924, in Hawarden, the son of William and Doris (nee Swift) Kircher. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1941 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1944. Arlo served in Germany until 1946 when he was honorably discharged. After the war, Arlo worked for his brother Leland on the family farm and then worked for Carsten Trucking.
On December 25, 1949, Arlo married Jeanette Schneider and they resided together in Hawarden for their entire marriage. Arlo retired in 1995 as the superintendent of L.G. Everest, Inc.; he worked for the company for 45 years.
Arlo was a man of the highest personal integrity and extraordinarily devoted to his family, which always formed the center of his life; he took enormous joy in being with his children and grandchildren. Arlo was a long-standing member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden. Until the very end, he maintained a sharp sense of humor.
Arlo is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanette; a son Kerry of North Potomac, Maryland, his wife Farhat, and their daughter Aashna; a daughter Laurel of Frederick, Maryland, her husband Bill Carlin, and their children Peter and Grace; a son Kyle of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and his three daughters Kelsey, Jordan, and Madison; a daughter Jan of Kansas City, Missouri, and her children Michael Mapes and his partner Steve Seiling, Meggie Mapes, and Ethan; a son-in-law Marvin Ebel of Chattanooga, Tennessee, his children Maria and Melodie, and Marvin's three grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Don Schneider and Jerald Schneider of Hawarden, and Wendell Schneider and his wife Virlene of Akron; three sisters-in-law, Neva Kircher of Hawarden, Darlene and her husband Earl Oetken of Akron, and Lois and her husband Don Van Egdom of Sioux Center; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arlo's beloved daughter Joi Ebel, his parents William and Doris Kircher of Hawarden, and his brother Leland of Hawarden, preceded him in death.
